Abstract: CDIC insures eligible deposits held in member institutions in case of their insolvency. The maximum insurance per person at each member institution is $100,000, although CDIC provides separate protection for joint deposits, trust deposits and eligible deposits held in RRSPs and RRIFs. CDIC members are banks, trust companies, loan companies and associations to which the Cooperative Credit Associations Act applies. A federal Crown corporation, CDIC works to minimize its exposure to loss and contributes to the stability of the Canadian financial system for the benefit of depositors.
